THE NEED TO PROTECT LAKE ALBERT'S RESOURCES AND THE VULNERABLE FISHERS

Fishing is not only a lucrative business but also a fun traditional activity for the  people of Dei and the whole Albertine region and it's what dictates their livelihood.

The challenge however comes when trying to hit a balance between protecting the water resources and supporting the ever growing population at the landing sites whose livelihood depends squarely on fishing.

At New Generation Fishers' Initiative (NEGFI), we believe that the vulnerable fishermen need to be supported to embrace alternative sources of livelihood. More sensitisation should be carried out to change the mindset of the people to uphold protection of the aquatic resources.

Also,  the next generation of fishermen (the young children) need to be trained to grow up with a holistic view of the natural resources.
